PRIME – Aquar­i­um Con­di­tion­er. By Seachem. The com­plete and con­cen­trat­ed con­di­tion­er for fresh­wa­ter and salt­wa­ter aquar­i­ums. Prime® takes out chlo­rine, chlo­ramine and it detox­i­fies ammo­nia. This prod­uct also changes ammo­nia into a safe, non-tox­ic form that is removed by the tank’s bio fil­ter.

Prime® may be used dur­ing tank cycling to relieve tox­i­c­i­ty of ammonia/nitrite. Prime® detox­i­fies nitrite and nitrate, allow­ing the bio fil­ter to effi­cient­ly remove them. Addi­tion­al­ly, Prime detox­i­fies heavy met­als found in your tap water at typ­i­cal con­cen­tra­tion lev­els. Prime® is non-acidic and does­n’t impact pH lev­els or over acti­vate skim­mers. Use when start­ing up a tank and when­ev­er adding or replac­ing your aquar­i­um water.

When trans­port­ing or quar­an­ti­ning fish, it is rec­om­mend­ed to use Seachem Stress­Guard™. When you are adding new fish to a tank, use Sta­bil­i­ty®. Both of these prod­ucts are ide­al to use with Prime®.

Most com­pa­nies man­u­fac­ture a prod­uct that removes the chlo­rine. None of those prod­ucts can com­pare to the qual­i­ty, con­cen­tra­tion, or effec­tive­ness to Seachem’s prod­uct Prime®. Prime® is the sec­ond most con­cen­trat­ed dechlo­ri­na­tor on the mar­ket. One 100 mL bot­tle will treat 1000 US gal­lons of tap water. Prime® will remove both chlo­rine and chlo­ramines from munic­i­pal water sup­plies.

Prime® con­tains a binder which makes ammo­nia, nitrite, and nitrate non-tox­ic. It is very impor­tant to under­stand and know how those two func­tions work togeth­er. All dechlo­ri­na­tors work through a chem­i­cal process known as reduc­tion. Dur­ing this process, tox­ic dis­solved chlo­rine gas is changed into non-tox­ic chlo­ride ions. The reduc­tion process also breaks the bonds between chlo­rine and nitro­gen atoms in the chlo­ramine mol­e­cule, free­ing the chlo­rine atoms and replac­ing them with hydro­gen (H) to cre­ate ammo­nia.

Typ­i­cal­ly, dechlo­ri­na­tors stop there, leav­ing an aquar­i­um full of tox­ic ammo­nia! Seachem takes the nec­es­sary next step by includ­ing an ammo­nia binder to detox­i­fy the ammo­nia pro­duced in the reduc­tion process.

Be very care­ful when pur­chas­ing water con­di­tion­ers. If your munic­i­pal­i­ty includes chlo­ramines in the water sup­plies, a stan­dard sodi­um thio­sul­fate dechlo­ri­na­tor is not enough. Prime® pro­motes the nat­ur­al pro­duc­tion and restora­tion of the slime coat rather than rely­ing on arti­fi­cial or non-native slime com­pounds. A fur­ther bonus for the reef hobbyist—Prime® will not over­ac­ti­vate pro­tein skim­mers.

Directions:

• 1 cap­ful to every 200 L (50 US gal­lons) of new water
• Each cap thread is approx­i­mate­ly 1 mL
• Each cap­ful is 5mL
• Read instruc­tions care­ful­ly
• Rec­om­mend­ed to add to new water first not direct­ly into the aquar­i­um
• Base dose on size of aquar­i­um if adding direct­ly
• Nor­mal sul­phur odor
• If real­ly high chlo­ramine con­cen­tra­tions present, a dou­ble dose may be used safe­ly
• In an emer­gency, you can detox­i­fy nitrite by dos­ing up to 5 times nor­mal dose
• It is rec­om­mend­ed to use a half dose where tem­per­a­tures read high­er than 30°C (86°F) and where chlo­rine or ammo­nia lev­els are low
